Comments: Joseph Calvin Loe got his middle name from his father and his first name from his uncle, Joseph Stephen Loe. He and his siblings changed the spelling of their names from Loe to Lowe after their cousin, Felix Loe, robbed them of their wealthy father’s estate in Colorado County, leaving them homeless and nearly penniless as small children.
